Week 354, Saturday 27th March until Friday 2nd April, 2021.

Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures in East London (The rule of 6 has returns).

Week 354 Saturday 27th March until Friday 2ndApril 2021.

On 1st April, I was hoping that someone would announce that the last twelve months had been one big April fools.

“Spikes sings in the garden”.

The seven days that this blog covers really wasn’t the most interesting, so I have decided to keep this short.  I really want you to read and come back another week.

“Cliffy appearing to say wheres the food”.

A real highlight over the last year has been the birds in the garden.  I enjoy filling up the various feeders and watching the birds which come to feed.  This week I decided to clean and do some maintenance to all the feeders we have.  I regularly inspect and make sure that everything is fit for use, giving a general wipe down because dirty feeders can attract vermin.  Mice and rats make me smile when I see them scurrying around a local park, or on tracks and in tunnels of the London Underground (It’s been so long since I was on the network these are dim and distant memories).  I really don’t want them in my friend’s garden or near the house.

“Sooty, from next door arriving for duty in the garden”.

I dismantled and cleaned everything laying all the pieces on the grass.  While I did this all around me in the surrounding trees and bushes our regular customers were being very vocal about the fact they were waiting to be fed.  We have a wooden house (table feeder) that regularly has Squirrels and Pigeons inside or sitting on top (not together, that would be silly) which has really been battered this last year and needed repairing.  My motor skills can be very fine when I am drawing and painting something small.  Give me a hammer and a nail, that’s a different story.  I kept hitting the wood near the intended target or as you wouldn’t be surprised my fingers.  I loved doing woodwork at school during the early 80s, but I have no woodworking skills.  After a lot of banging and a few choice words uttered under my breath the feeder was ready for use.  My fingers were slightly battered and red, but it is worth it.

“Oops, i need to buy a new water dish. Luckily there is another. I promise to be more careful”.

Once all the feeders were back up, within 10 minutes all our customers had returned eating as much as they could, while dropping the same amount on the grass to be grazed on later.  Bird watching has become a real tonic to me personally this last year, if a little scrubbing, cleaning and basic maintenance (including minor finger damage) will keep them returning on a daily basis it’s worth it.

“My indoor cactus, has flowers”.

And Now For Something Completely Different……

The clocks went forward, it happened every year at this time.  But every year I have to stop and think about what’s happened.  At my great age, this really should creep up on me (I don’t have issues with the clock change at the end of October).  I am enjoying having the light longer later in the day.  This will allow me to start to get out in the garden after work and see if I can grow green things like I did last year.  That’s was another delight of last year’s lockdowns and homeworking, getting messy on the garden after a stressful day of taking calls

I am determined that next March the clocks changing won’t make me stop and scratch my head.

And Finally……

Spoke to a lady with a surname of a “Sesame Street” character, wondered if she got teased a lot growing up.  Of course I didn’t ask or mention the TV show.

While out in a local shopping centre, I slipped and have sprained an ankle.  After a week it’s still swollen, bruised and painful.  After a call from my sister who used to be a nurse and looked at a picture I sent her I will go and have the foot looked at.  Just for the record she did tell me to get it looked at the day I did it, but I’m a little stubborn, I would like to say sorry to my baby sister Hel here and now.

“The nearest i will get to a halo”.
