Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures in East London (Week 12 (the Third of our slowly coming out of lockdown).
Week 353 Saturday 20th until Friday 26thMarch 2021.
Last week I talked about a couple of anniversaries, this week that theme continues. It’s been one year since I was involved in a small car accident which sadly saw Artie ending up going to the great scrapyard in the sky. A really lovely old car which had many more miles still to travel. My friend sitting in the passenger seat was holding a small box that contained a tiny Hamster (both of them were ok, by the way). Ten minutes before the Hamster had been living in an enclosure in a large chain pet store waiting for adoption.
Yes it’s been a whole year since little Chewie came in to our lives. To many people a small creature that spends most of the day asleep /hidden in a burrow is not a lot of fun to be around. But this little creature has given us something else to think about and look after during these trying last 12 months of being pretty much locked in the house.
I can gush just as much over a tiny rodent as I can at a group of orphaned Elephants seen in Sri Lanka or waking up to find Zebras wondering around outside the bedroom in South Africa. Or nearer to home seeing visiting neighbours cats (including the young bird murderer) stalking grass hoppers in the back garden. A small Hamster is a delight and every time I see him or any interaction with him really makes my heart burst with joy.
The ungrateful little sod, I say this as he really doesn’t want to know us at times. But is happy to pop his head out grab a piece of Broccoli or Melon, then rush back inside whatever is home and totally ignoring our smiles and love. Seriously this small creature has really helped my sanity over the last year. I have read how other animals such as Cats, Dogs and Horses have helped there owners. I’ve never seen any mention to a Hamster; here I am publicly stating that a small rodent has been a real tonic these last twelve months.
My friend and I are so pleased that Chewie came to live with us, I am sure that the pet store were looking after him, and he would have found a good home eventually. But I am pleased that we saw him and picked him. If we had waited another couple of days he would have been locked in the shop due to the first lockdown. Of course I am sad about Artie the car, but giving Chewie a happy home was so important.
And Now For Something Completely Different……
I’ve had my first jab. It all happened very quickly after I got a text inviting me to receive the prick. A couple of days later I was sat in a local theatre having my temperature checked, asked repeatedly a couple of questions and then being injected.
A lot of people have said that they were quite emotional at the time of the vaccination. For me it was just turn up, feel the pinch and prick, then leave. Maybe I should have felt more about the occasion. My thinking is if this vaccination is the key to returning to a near normal (pre March 2020) life, then of course I need to have it. I am very grateful to the scientists all over the world who have worked so fast in developing this vaccination in record time. The following couple of days I did feel unwell, this soon passed. My arm ached for nearly a week.
My second injection is in early June, if I feel overwhelmed and emotional then I will let you know.
Plenty of Blue Tits seen this week. They like to sit in the bush beside the window, normally facing the opposite direction. That’s right this week I have managed to get a lot of pictures of Blue Tits arse. I really had to be careful while typing that.
My friend was cooking; I walked in to the kitchen she said “do you want to that”. She pointed to a pan that had just been used to heat up beans. Who doesn’t love fingering a pan that has warm baked bean juice inside?
