Week 352, Saturday 13th until Friday 19th March 2021.

Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures in East London (Week 11 (the second of our slowly coming out of lockdown).

Week 352 Saturday 13thuntil Friday 19thMarch 2021.

This last week, here in the UK we celebrated Mother’s Day.

L to R, Sigrida (my sister-in-law), my Mum and SAZ (my sister). Three great mums.

This week I celebrated ONE year of working from home.  March 13th last year everyone in the office was told that from the next week we were all to work at home.  On Monday 16th I collected the equipment I would need, a laptop, large desk phone and various wires which I colour coded so I knew where they had to be plugged in.  Then there was all the papers I use daily with names and telephone numbers (internal and external) which make me sound like I know what I am doing.

Always lovely to see Cliff in the garden.

The next morning (Tuesday 17th) there was a lot of fiddling, crossing fingers and desperately hoping that I.T had done there magic.  One of the biggest issues was where was I going to sit in the living room.  Once I realised that I would be able to spend a lot of each day looking out of the window enjoying the birds that visit the various feeders in the garden, I knew that this would work.  By the end of the first week the new routine of getting up as late as possible, make it down the stairs to log on and sit in my PJ’s all day felt normal.

A recent newcomer to the garden.

Over the last year there haven’t been any major tech issues, now and then one of the systems would go down for a short period of time, sadly for never long enough.  On one great occasion the telephone system failed for three to four hours, that really was one of the best working days ever.

Spring really is on the way.

Working from home is the new normal; personally I hope to work from the living room for as long as possible.  There is nothing about the office I miss; I haven’t been back at all.  I still hate the job, but working from home does make things a little less stressful.

And Now This……

Another recent newcomer who visits the garden.

This week it was Five years since I returned to the UK from Mozambique.  When I arrived back at Heathrow Airport I really was confident that I would return to Tofo that summer.  Sadly due to money issues it has never happened.  Honestly not a day goes by when I don’t think of that beautifully peaceful location looking out on to the Indian Ocean.  The daily Facebook memories I see do hurt, in fact I can’t look at them properly because I would rather be there than here.  Each of the three or four visits (for six to nine months at a time) were amazing; I really miss everything, the diving, people (especially Jenny and all at Liquid), food, dogs (Rusty, Tank, Sunto, Alfie, Sally) running around dirt tracks and the beach, travelling in hot cramped buses, water and power shortages.  There is nothing not to like about Mozambique.

“Hello”.

I do hope I return, partly to see if any of the possessions including all my dive gear is still there.  But because I really was so happy, less stressed, I actually enjoyed life.  In 2019 I had planned to return following year, but the virus had other plans.  As I write I really have no idea what I am doing, I still want (need) to travel and Tofo is high on the list.  It’s not on its own as I want to return to Sir Lanka and would like to see if I could make a life there.

Matching mask and top, am i fashionable.

Tofo will always have a special place in my heart and mind.  I hope I will return, if I don’t end up living there it will be a place I return to again and again.

When it rained this week, it really rained.
