Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures in East London (Week 9 of Lockdown the Third).
Week 350 Saturday 27thFebruary until Friday 5thMarch 2021.

This week is the 350th week of this blog. Personally I can’t believe that I have written something usually between 600 to 800 words every seven days without missing a single week.

Because of the current restrictions of course I have spent the last week at home and really don’t have much to say. But after writing the above paragraph, the blog is like a drug compelling me to type. What follows are random thoughts over the last seven days. If what I’ve written is boring maybe the nice pictures looking out in the garden will make this a lot more interesting.

I have a neighbour that plays music loudly at inappropriate times. Earlier this week standing in a quiet house before work, I could feel a pounding vibrating feeling. After making my way to the backdoor I opened it quickly expecting to hear music playing behind the fence. Everything was silent because everything sensible including the neighbour was still asleep. It was only when I returned to the living room did I realised this thumping was the beating of my heart. That feeling should be a comfort, that I am still alive. But it actually disturbs me; I really don’t like the sensation of its rhythmic beating. I used to sleep on my left, but in the last few months I have had to change sides because the vibrations in my chest made me feel uncomfortable.

At this great age I should embrace the beating of the organ that has kept me alive all these years. This regular rhythm I suppose should be a comfort, however I would prefer not to be aware of its working.

And now other stuff……
All week I have had a very bad back. During a break I decided to spend 5 minutes lying flat on the floor. After setting the timer on my small electronic device, I lay down and closed my eyes enjoying the silence. The timer didn’t go off; I kept thinking that it would sound any moment. It didn’t! Eventually I sat up and discovered I had set the timer for 5 hours not minutes. Luckily I was still on my break, I wonder if my manager would believe me if I had just laid there for longer returning late for work. I really need to learn now to work my small electronic device. Laying on the floor is something I might do more often, I have read a lot about people enjoying meditation and it’s after effects.

And there’s more……
A new cat that has started to visits the garden caught a bird earlier in the week. I was sadly unsuccessful in rescuing it. The rest of the week when I see the cat I have rushed out and gently squirted water near it to try and discourage it from visiting the garden.

I did see another casualty this week. A Pigeon spotted on one of the feeders had definitely been in a skirmish recently. It was good to see that it could fly and was eating and drinking, hopefully what I saw was just feather/ plumage damage.

As a nature fan I do have to remind myself that this is all very natural and must not demonise the cat or other creatures. But it is upsetting to see especially as I do encourage the birds in to the garden.

And Finally……
In the kitchen, a drink was passed through hatch from the living room by my friend I live with. Of course I picked it up and drank it in one. Opps, the drink wasn’t mine; she was passing hers through to drink in the kitchen while cooking. I did apologise and poured her another straight away.
At work one afternoon this week the computer and phone suddenly died. I sat there for a second with a smile on my face. That faded very quickly when I realised that this power cut was because my friend pulled out the wrong plug. Was this payback for drinking her drink?

I have just stumbled across your blog (long story) and something about the description resonated with me – the idea that happiness and creativity appear to be your goals. I’m on board with this. Really enjoyed reading your recent post. I can relate to the heartbeat issue. I too get spooked by it from time to time. Also have a bad back. Lots of standing backward bends from the waist is my top tip!
