Week 357, Saturday 17th until Friday 23rd April 2021.

Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures in East London.

Week 357 Saturday 17th until Friday 23rdApril 2021.

I am of an age where I am still in control of how and where I want to sit down.  By this I mean I see a location, and then in a calm and steady manor my lardy arse is positioned on the imaginary X that marks the spot.  These last few weeks everything changed with my left foot in a cast and using the power of crutches.  I see the spot and have to rely on gravity, hoping that the landing is as soft as expected.  These last couple of week I really could have used the Sky Crane system that NASA recently used for the second time to successfully land a rover (Perseverance) on Mars.  The way I have been sitting down recently is what you expect from someone 20 or more years older than I am.

“Feet are ugly”.

Sadly I haven’t had contact with my three nephews and niece so the cast has not been covered in graffiti.  It’s remained as white as it was when it had been applied.  This all changed last Sunday while attempting to water plants on a window sill, when I knocked over a small plastic cup that I fill with water while attempting to paint.  The small amount of pistachio coloured liquid landed on the cast (damn you gravity!) and soaked in the plaster before I was able to do anything.  I won’t lie I really was very annoyed with my normal general incompetence after keeping the cast looking like it had been freshly applied.  The only good thing was the colour wasn’t red because that would have looked like blood, brown far too much like shiz and yellow as If I had pissed myself.

“This is how I would decorate the crutches, if I was on them long term”.

In the end all was fine, because when I visited the fracture clinic later this week the cast was removed and has been replaced with a boot (that reminds constantly of Spock’s hover boots in Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) which I can take off at night and when I want a shower.  The Dr did comment on the greenish stain, which I really tried to not bring too much attention to.  If some people can claim an unmade bed is art, I could have said it was a portable art project I was working on.  I didn’t and changed the subject as quickly as possible.

“Honest we are smiling”.

I return in three week, fingers crossed all is going to be good, because I have a couple of events coming in June and July that I intend on getting both legs fully immersed in water.  Plus I would like to drive myself to the locations.

“A little exercise”.

Finally while being wheeled around the hospital in a wheel chair (my friend drove very well, only colliding with doors and wedging me in corner a couple of times) I tried to assist my friend by grabbing hold of a plastic rail (wall guard) that ran along the middle of the wall to aid our locomotion in the opposite direction.  The rail was probably about 4 to 5 inches in height (maybe 1 or 2 inches wide).  When my friend pushed the chair towards the exit, the rail stayed in my hand as it came off the wall.  We stopped looked at each other in shock and could only laugh.  Luckily no one was around to see this vandalism to NHS property, as we passed a row of empty chairs I gently left the hard plastic behind.  Next time I visit I won’t need the chair, and will definitely keep away from the walls and all rails.

“Such a beautiful time of year”.

And Finally……

“Making a pick n mix for the birds”.

I had to suppress a chuckle as I spoke to a lovely person with the surname of a popular tall hairy character from Star Wars.  I wanted to say something because I am a huge fan of the films (especially Episodes IV to VI).  Of course I didn’t, but I did wonder if they had been teased all their life.  Of course as soon as the call was over, I did mention the name to my friend the other side of the living room who is also a lifelong fan of the movies.

“I can see you”.

Also work related, asked a man (nicely, but sternly) to stop shouting at me on the phone.  It was only 9,30am; I told him it was far too early to be that angry and upset.  He did apologise before he ended the call, hopefully he had a good rest of day after he calmed down.

“can used injections, be art”.
