Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures in East London and Suffolk.

Week 331 Saturday 17^th until Friday 23^rdOctober 2020.

I had this week’s blog all written and planned.  But On Thursday evening I received the following text which changed everything.

(Last week I told you about my visit to see Spike my 19 year old cat that now lives with friends).

Dear Dana, I am very sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Spike has now joined the elite few puss cats in heaven.  He went downhill very quickly after Sunday, off his food drinking a lot.  Very wobbly & weak.  Not like himself at all.  Took him to see his normal vet.  He was very concerned he’d lost a lot of weight.  He said he could do blood tests but due to his age what could be done when results come back.  He thinks he may have had kidney problems or pancreatitis.  He was losing his balance a lot as well.  Amazing how fast he declined.  At least it was not a long drawn illness.  We are of course devastated and don’t know what to do at home without him.  I’ve just put down some fresh water for him in case his spirit is still here.  So sorry to tell you.  Vet was very impressed he had done so well for so long.  We were very grateful to have him in our lives. xxxxx💖💜💗💛💝💓

Some people will think and say, it’s just a cat!  But to me Spike was so much more, a friend, a companion when I lived alone in a flat feeling stressed and depressed about the world.  He was always there when I needed comfort.  I would like to think that he was happy and knew how special he was.  I know he loved my friends, and lived a wonderful retirement these last few years with them.  I feel extremely sad and upset at his passing, but have so many happy memories from the very first day in May 2001 until the last.
