Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures in East and Central London, Essex and Surrey.
Week 329 Saturday 3rd until Friday 9thOctober 2020.

I recently celebrated another orbit around the sun. My family and friends know I’m not big at celebrating the moment I caused my mum a lot of pain during the end of the Black and white era of British TV. If I had my way, I would sit at home probably in bed watching the tablet while eating cake, eating anything if honest! Luckily I live with a lovely friend who always makes early October special without feeling too stressful.

Last weekend I ate various slices of cake, and chips in the rain. As well as a lovely Thai meal in a small central London pub we visit two or three time a year, which is usually very quiet that plays indie music in the background. This visit was slightly different. Upstairs in the small dining room next to our table were a group of four women (of course everything was very socially distanced and safe, so please don’t panic) who chatted amongst themselves, just as my friend and I did. Our peace was shattered when two men appeared turned on the huge flat screen to watch football. Though most of the time they seemed to ignore the kicky ball on the screen and just chat loudly to each other. I noticed that one of women occasionally glance at them, giving them an evil eye. Of course none of us complained about the noise pollution. We carried on with our meals and ignored them the best as we could.

This was my second visit to the capital in seven days; it’s starting to become a habit. Over the special weekend I realised two other habits. One I became addicted to collecting screenshots of the QR codes for the government track and trace (i think that’s what the system is called) system. Every time I saw one at the entrance to an establishment I wanted to go in and scan the code even if the shop sold tatt I was not remotely interested in. The second thing was enjoying more and more the smell of hand sanitiser with an alcohol content of 75% or more. By the time I got home I had the cleanest hands in the south east, even if they were a little rough looking. I’m glad I don’t go out often these day’s, my hands wouldn’t be able to take enjoyment of that level. I really need to get proper hobbies.

I really did have a good bday (thank you so much MOZ). There are many things I enjoy and wish would last for longer or come around quicker. But i am so pleased b’days are only a year. If all goes to plan, next year I will be abroad travelling, this will mean my friend will have to virtually tempt me away from staying in bed all day. Bed is very much my happy place. That’s in a year’s time; maybe I will have changed and become a social butterfly. If the blog is still going in early October 2021 I will report back then.

And Finally……

Instead of saying “kack handed”, I said “cock handed”. I’m blaming it on my great age and not any drink I may have consumed.

If there is something that gets me very excited it’s seeing a TV camera on a pedestal. While at the O2 travelling down an escalator I looked through the glass walled Sky TV studio and get hot and sweaty at seeing a lone powered down camera. When I mentioned what I saw to my friend waiting at the bottom of the moving staircase she said that I am addicted to TV camera pedestal porn (I really had to be careful writing that). I’ve been an addict since the 1970s, somethings really never change. I wonder if there is a pedestal support group.

Walking into a small antique shop, I noticed behind the counter a cute bulldog puppy which snored loudly. While browsing through the unwanted nik naks, I overheard the women also behind the counter say to a man reading a newspaper (making it clear he wanted to be left along) that the dog “had farted again”.
