Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures in Ibiza and Northamptonshire

Hi my name is Helen, Dana’s sister. I have kidnapped the blog for this week.

This week has been a strange one, we got back from Ibiza thinking that Dana would go home on Tuesday. This all changed when we received calls from NHS Test and Trace stating that we needed to isolate for 10 days. All info before we travelled was that because the Balearics were in green (for those outside of the UK. The British government have a traffic light system of red, amber and green. Green countries don’t require a period of isolation. Two days after we returned Ibiza did fall back in to Amber. But it was green when we were there) we wouldn’t need to isolate. The person on the phone was confident and very convincing that Dana should live with us for this period. Also Dana didn’t want Priti Patel knocking angrily on mums front door.

This mean that Dana was going to be living with us for a lot longer than anyone thought. Mum and I live in a bungalow which is great for two, but makes things a little more difficult with three. She has taken over the living room leaving her belongings all over the place, trying to trip myself and mum up.

Other issues, she has eaten us out of house and home. Resulting in a bigger than normal supermarket delivery just to cope with her oversized appetite. She wouldn’t want the world to know that the small village we live in has had to have its drains unblocked at least twice due to the amount that she has flushed away (she really spends far to long in the loo. Playing the radio very loud to mask uncomfortable sounds). One thing my sister enjoys is napping during the day. Napping many, many times every day, she really needs to get back to work. Mum dreads how much extra electricity she has costs us, staying up into the small hours watching multiple screens at the same time. I have suggested sending her the bill when it arrives.

In reality it has been a joy to have Dana with us this week (she actually doesn’t leave until next Tuesday. My opinion may have changed by then). We have spent the week introducing each other to films and tv shows that we had not seen before. And sitting in the garden watching a very large black bird chick that sits with its mouth open waiting to be fed.

Dana has her uses, she enjoys watering the garden, which I don’t. Rereading my list, that is the only task that she has been useful for. Maybe next time (if we allow her to stay again) we will find other talents that she claims to have.
