Misfits Mid-Life Crisis Adventures in East London & Surrey.
Week 362, Saturday 22nd until 28th Friday May 2021.

Let’s start with medical chat. Happily the foot is better, the Doctor has signed me off and told me to be careful while tap dancing (that’s a joke, I don’t tap dance since I fell in to the sink. Boom boom!!). As I expected he didn’t want the crutches or boot back, I am now looking for a good home to donate them to. I had another X-ray on my back, recently I have had so many X-rays that I would probably glow in the dark or if connected to the National Grid power a small village because of all the radiation that this lardy sack of a body has soaked up.

Last weekend I had my second jab, which means in a couple of weeks I will be able to resume licking lamp posts and handrails like I used to pre March 2020. I can report that at the time of writing Bill Gates hasn’t started to give me instructions, I am still fully in control of this body. As with the first jab it was very quick, in and out without any faff. It was outside the temporary vaccination centre my friend shouted “where’s your bag?”

Within a minute I was back at the entrance speaking to the lady volunteer who was also wearing a “Doctor Who” facemask (it was because of my DW mask that she remembered me). I knew the booth number I was injected in and the location of the seat my lardy behind sat in briefly. A couple of minutes later she reappears, but empty handed. All the staff were extremely helpful and allowed me to quickly have a look inside for myself, absolutely nothing could be seen. The helpful volunteer noted my contact info just in case the bag with all my belongings was found.

After the high of the second jab, I felt totally deflated with worry about having to cancel cards, get new keys cut and replace everything stuffed in the bag. This was when my friend said, “you didn’t leave it in the car, did you?” I thought of course not, my bag is always with me. You guessed it, I am a total chump, on the backseat was the precious satchel. This was when I wondered if I should go back and tell the nice lady in the “Doctor Who” mask that everything was ok. No, we drove off and went straight home. Luckily she didn’t ring that evening, it really would have been so embarrassing. Life lesson learned, check the back seat before locking the car.

And Now For Something Completely Different……

Last weekend I was able to visit Surrey for the first time this year, to visit my sister and family. It’s been so long since I saw them; I had bags of B’day and Crimbum prezzie for the little ones. Within a couple of minutes my sisters tidy living room was full of shredded wrapping paper looking like a recycling centre, all I could do was apologies and tidy up as quickly as possible.

I had great fun taking the children out, but not together, not because they don’t get on, but due to them being busy socialites who play sport and have friends. The youngest spent the night at a friend’s; this meant that my niece and I had a lovely evening together taking over my sister’s back room. The nine year old enjoyed the films she had chosen for us to watch, and shared my Chinese take-a-way. But I am sure that the highlight of her evening was my introduction of the voting and results section of “The Eurovision Song Contest”. I seem to remember that I was tortured with the contest for the first time around the same age. As a responsible aunty I decided it was time she experienced the national yearly disappointment of the UK score. My next visit now we are unlocked, needs to be Hertfordshire to visit my two nephews. Of course I will have to sit the oldest down and show him a recording of this year’s results. Family really is so important.

And Finally……

During one call this week, a man on the phone said he nearly soiled himself when he received a bill from the organisation I work for. I may need years of therapy because of that call. This is a prime example of why working in a call centre (even remotely) is not healthy.

I spoke to “The Jackal” (1973, IMDB fans). The man was far too young to understand the reference.
